Privacy

Hollowfind is a map of fairy houses and the handmade pieces people find in them. We collect as little as we can to make that work.

What we collect

• Your account. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive an account ID, your name and your email address. You can change the name other people see.
• Things you add. Fairy houses you add (name, description and location), visits you log, and photos you upload.
• Pieces. Which pieces you've claimed, and where you logged them: either a fairy house, or a town.
• Reports. If you report something, we keep the report, plus an email address if you choose to give one.

Location

• The app only uses your device's location when you ask it to, for example to show nearby houses, drop a pin, or log a piece in your town.
• When you log a piece in your town, the app turns your location into a town name on our server and throws the exact point away. We never store it.
• Fairy houses on private land are shown to everyone else as an area, never as an exact pin. Only the person who added it, and our moderators, see the exact spot.

Photos

Photos are stored privately until a person on our team approves them. Rejected photos are deleted. Please don't upload photos that show faces, house numbers or street signs.

Ads

The app shows banner ads from Google AdMob. We ask for non-personalized ads only, rated for general audiences. Google may still use device information, such as your IP address and a device identifier, to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same one, and prevent fraud. Services we use

• Firebase Authentication (Google) for sign-in.
• Cloudflare to store photos and serve this website.
• CARTO for map tiles. Your device requests map images from CARTO, which sees your IP address.

We don't sell your information, and we don't share it except with these services so they can do their jobs.

Children

Hollowfind is made for families, but accounts are for adults. We don't knowingly create accounts for children under 13. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.

Deleting your data

Email us from the address on your account and we'll delete your account, your photos and the houses you've added. Pieces you claimed become unclaimed, and their history stays on each piece without your name.
